The starting gun has been fired on a drive to showcase Moray Speyside as a world-class tourism destination.
The campaign aims to make the region the second Tourism Business Improvement District (TBid) in Scotland. Local tourism-related businesses would pay a yearly levy based on the rateable value of their business premises. Members would then have the power to determine exactly how the money should be spent and the direction of focus to put Moray visibly on the world destination map.
The proposal will be put to a vote this summer, with 400 local tourism-related businesses to have a say in a six-week postal ballot. Business response to the proposal so far has been overwhelmingly positive as enthusiasm builds for the possibilities the initiative could offer.
