This website relates to the proposal for a “business improvement district” for tourism businesses in Moray Speyside; providing information about the proposal for a self-financing body dedicated to promoting the Moray Speyside region as a place to visit, supporting tourism businesses in the area and explaining how interested businesses can get involved in the plan.
Since 2014, Moray Speyside Tourism has promoted our region, supported local tourism businesses and represented the region’s tourism industry at national level.
During this time, the annual value of tourism to the Moray Speyside economy has grown by almost £30 million and is now worth £130 million per year.
- Year-on-year tourism growth has reached record levels
- 2018 saw the highest ever visitor numbers to our region
- 2018 saw the highest ever visitor days to our region
- Tourism employment is at its highest ever level
Moray Speyside Tourism has been consulting on the possibility of introducing a Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID) which would provide funding to continue marketing and promotion of the area beyond 2019.
You may have heard about these developments or taken part in consultations that included an online survey (November 2018) and ongoing discussions with tourism businesses.
The Tourism Business Improvement District is a blueprint for tourism in Moray Speyside – it would be 100% accountable to you, the members – a key benefit being that it would give your business a strong voice in the future direction of tourism in the Moray Speyside area.
A Tourism Business Improvement District is a new way of investing in Moray’s tourism industry which could significantly boost visitor numbers. It would see a collective of local businesses invest funds to support the growth and development of the area’s tourism industry, resulting in:
- More Investment in Moray Speyside’s tourism industry
- More UK and International Marketing
- More Support for your business
- A Secure and Sustainable future
To this end, we need to make sure that the proposals you vote on represent your priorities, aims and ambitions.
During July, 11 Business Engagement Events were held throughout Moray Speyside – the events offered attendees the opportunity to find out in detail how the Tourism Business Improvement District will benefit businesses across the region.
In August we will publish a draft business plan and carry out further consultation in advance of unveiling the full business plan later this summer.
Tourism Businesses will be asked to vote on the proposals by means of a postal ballot which will run for 6 weeks from December 2019 into January 2020.
A Tourism Business Improvement District can only come into being if it is voted on by you, the tourism businesses in our region.
Your views are crucial to the creation of the Moray Speyside Tourism BID – make sure they are heard!
